Another rise in electricity prices drove a 3.0 percent increase in prices paid by producers and a 2.6 percent increase in prices received for production in the June 2021 quarter (from the March 2021 quarter), Stats NZ said today.
Prices paid by electricity and gas supply producers rose 17.0 percent in the June 2021 quarter, while prices received for production increased 14.3 percent.
"As we saw last quarter, low lake levels and gas supply constraints continue to push electricity and gas prices higher," business prices delivery manager Bryan Downes said.
See Electricity prices spike in March quarter for more information.
The prices paid by the industry (input prices) are just shy of the record level reported in 2008, while the prices received by the industry (output prices) are the highest in the series.

Commercial consumers see price increase
Electricity prices for commercial consumers, which tend to be more volatile, increased 15.4 percent in the June 2021 quarter. In contrast, prices for residential consumers increased 0.3 percent, as previously reported in Consumers price index: June 2021 quarter.
"Commercial consumers bore the brunt of the increase, while residential consumers were largely unaffected," Mr Downes said.
