Crescent Head Road will soon become safer with the installation of roadside barriers on curves, pavement resurfacing and shoulder widening.

Kempsey Shire Council has received a NSW Government grant of $1,529,100 under the Safer Roads Program to carry out safety improvement works between Berrys Lane and Maria River Road.

This supplements 2019-20 blackspot funding approval for safety upgrades between Beranghi Road and Berrys Lane.

Kempsey Shire Council Director Operations and Planning, Robert Fish, said improving the condition of roads is a key focus for Council.

"Crescent Head Road is a vital road in and out of one of our largest communities and these works will increase safety for drivers and pedestrians," said Mr Fish.

"There are more than 1200 kilometres of road in our shire. Grant-funded projects like this one are a vital component of Council's efforts to maintain and improve the entire network."

The safety improvements will include new line markings and roadside advisory signs.

Beginning in early June, work is expected to be undertaken over approximately 2 months.

Traffic will be temporarily reduced to one lane from 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Motorists are asked to observe all signage and directions from road crews during the works.
