Indian Tech Giant to Create Hundreds of Jobs in Victoria

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is creating hundreds of highly skilled local jobs by supporting a global Indian tech company to open its Australia and New Zealand headquarters in Victoria.

In Delhi today, Premier Jacinta Allan met with Indian IT company Firstsource to announce it will establish its new headquarters in Melbourne creating up to 420 jobs in Victoria.

Firstsource is a global business process services company that provides digital transformation solutions to a broad range of industries including healthcare, banking and financial services, communications, media and technology, education, utilities and energy.

Attracting Firstsource's Australia and New Zealand headquarters to Victoria will grow the state's digital capabilities, bringing new proprietary technology and driving more research. Firstsource plans to partner with Victorian education institutions to set up an innovation lab focused on AI, engineering, robotics and digital experimentation.

Launched yesterday, Victoria's India Strategy 2025-2030 is the Labor Government's plan to strengthening its relationship with India, identifying digital technology as an emerging sector.

India is a major two-way trading partner for Victoria, totaling $3.6 billion in 2023/24. Victoria is already home to several major Indian tech companies including Sonata, UST, Fractal and Infosys who have access to more engineering and IT graduates than anywhere else in Australia.

Victoria's tech sector contributed $35.6 billion to the state's economy in 2023, with tech jobs growing more than twice as fast as average employment over the past decade.
