Tourism Council WA has welcomed today's announcement by the State Government of 'A million reasons to Wander out Yonder' to encourage Western Australians to experience more of the State like a tourist.
'A million reasons to Wander out Yonder', available from Monday, will provide ten thousand $100 vouchers to members of the public to use on tours and experiences across WA.
Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said the initiative was great news for tourism operators which were struggling due to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions.
"Although accommodation and hospitality are booming in some regions, many operators of tours and experiences are struggling with the impacts of COVID-19 on the tourism industry," he said.
"This initiative will reward Western Australians for spending more on tours and experiences, which will help sustain tourism businesses in the local economy until such time as out-of-state visitors can return.
"We hope Western Australians will use this as an opportunity to travel like a tourist and experience the best of WA with high-quality, accredited and award-winning tourism product."
Mr Hall congratulated the State Government on the initiative and said he hoped, if successful, it would be expanded to other tourism regions, seasonal businesses, and other operators in need of assistance.
"This initial round of vouchers is well-targeted to those in need, and we look forward to working with the State Government on future initiatives to assist operators and regions which continue to be impacted by the pandemic," he said.
