A public Remembrance Day commemoration will be hosted in Warragul at the Cenotaph on the corner of Smith and Victoria Streets from 10.30am on Thursday 11 November to acknowledge and honour the noble sacrifices of armed forces and civilians during times of war.

The commemoration is being run by the Warragul RSL and will be held in accordance with the COVIDSafe settings for public events. This means that attendees must register their attendance via QR sign-in and present proof of full vaccination status to the event's COVID Marshall.

Baw Baw Shire Council will also livestream the Warragul commemoration ceremony via the Council Facebook page so that residents may observe proceedings remotely. This option will be promoted on Council's Facebook page in the lead up to Remembrance Day.

To meet current Victorian Government COVID directions, other local RSLs across the Shire will hold private outdoor Remembrance Day commemoration ceremonies.

For these private commemorations, official attendees will be limited in line with current COVIDSafe settings. Members of the public who are in the vicinity are able to observe from a distance provided they adhere to social distancing and group size restrictions.

Private commemorations will be conducted at the following war memorials:

  • Darnum - 11.00am
  • Drouin – 10.50am
  • Longwarry – 11.00am
  • Neerim South – 10.50am
  • Thorpdale – 12.00pm
  • Trafalgar – 11.00am

There will be no formal services at other locations, but residents are welcome to lay wreaths in their own time throughout the day. Baw Baw Shire Councillors will also lay wreaths at war memorials across the Shire.

All citizens are requested to observe one minutes silence at 11.00am to mark the cessation of hostilities on the Western front during World War I, and wear poppies as a sign of respect.
