Police are appealing for public assistance after an injured man was located in Sydney's south west this morning.
About 5.50am (Friday 3 January 2025), Emergency services were called to a canal off the Cooks River at Croydon Park, after a man was seen in a canal by a passing cyclist.
The man was retrieved with the assistance of NSW Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW, before he was taken to St George Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Officers from Burwood Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As inquiries continue, police are appealing for information, CCTV and or dashcam footage that may be able to assist in identifying the man, described as being of Caucasian appearance, in his 70s, thin build, with short white hair, and wearing a grey/white/black chequered shirt, black pants and black shoes.
He is believed to have been in the vicinity of the Cooks River Path at Punchbowl Road, Croydon Park, in the early hours of this morning (Friday 3 January 2025).
