Injury In Police Operation, Woree

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating following a serious single-vehicle traffic crash at Woree on Monday, August 26.

Initial investigations indicate just before 9:30pm, officers from the Cairns Highway Patrol observed two motorcycles and a utility travelling north on George Cannon Drive.

It will be alleged one of the motorcycles was detected travelling over the speed limit before a Highway Patrol officer, also on a motorcycle, attempted to intercept the driver on Des Chalmers Drive.

A short time later, the motorcycle driver attempted to turn left into Anderson Street, when the motorcycle collided with a traffic pole.

Police arrived on scene shortly after and rendered assistance to the driver.

The 21-year-old Manunda man was taken to Cairns Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigations are continuing, anyone with information is urged to contact police.
