The Beaconsfield Parade bridge will be closed from 7pm Wednesday 8 March to 6am Thursday 9 March to install concrete barriers in preparation for the longer-term traffic changes.
The barriers will be installed at night to reduce the impact on community and will ensure the safety of motorists during construction of the adjacent new bridge. Light towers will be erected, and cranes used to move the barriers into place.
Traffic lights will also be installed to manage the traffic flow across the bridge for the duration of construction.
When the bridge is closed, motorists can cross the rail track via Taminick Gap Road or the Old Hume Highway.
Further work to relocate utility services will also continue in Glenrowan throughout March.
Connecting Melbourne and Brisbane, Inland Rail is Australia's largest freight rail infrastructure project and will better connect businesses, manufacturers and producers to national and global markets and create new opportunities for Australian industries and regional communities.
The new Beaconsfield Parade bridge is being built to allow trains carrying double-stacked containers to pass safely underneath.
Ed Walker, ARTC General Manager Victorian and South Australian Major Construction Projects said:
'Construction work will gather pace at the Glenrowan and Barnawartha North sites over the coming weeks.
'In addition to the concrete barriers and traffic lights, a new site hoarding featuring the artwork of Glenrowan Primary School students will wrap the site fencing.
'We thank local residents for their patience and understanding during this time.
Tom Foley, Project Manager T2A Tranche 1, McConnell Dowell
'It's great to have boots on the ground, see progress happening and local investment with local contractors and dollars spent in local businesses.
'We will continue to keep local residents informed of all our upcoming construction activity and aim to keep disruption to a minimum.'
