Insectapalooza, Nature Walk, Music & Storytelling

The creepy crawlies are king at Insectapalooza this weekend, but there are many other things to do across campus this week, from events to help you find balance and mindfulness to a musical duo that weaves traditional storytelling into their performances. Below, find a selection of upcoming events that are open to the public.

Insectapalooza

The Department of Entomology's family-friendly annual celebration of all things arthropod returns on Saturday. See live specimens and selections from the Cornell University Insect Collection. Attend short workshops about careers in entomology, beekeeping and pollinator gardens, and learn about fighting spotted lanternflies, ticks and other pests.

Mindful Botany Walk

Practice mindfulness while exploring paths and gardens on a monthly nature walk with Cornell Botanic Gardens staff, observing and appreciating the transformations plants undertake in the fall.

Music and storytelling

In Krik! Krak: Tales from Haiti and the Philippines, baritone and storyteller Jean Bernard Cerin and pianist Veena Kulkarni-Rankin will share folktales inspired by traditions from around the world. The duo - Kuwento Mizik - will perform a program of Haitian, Filipino and American music.

Seeking stability

Balance Basics, a four-session virtual class to help people boost their balance, begins on Tuesday. Learn about the role our bodies and brains play in maintaining balance, understand your baseline balancing ability and practice exercises to help boost stability.
