There are 65 drivers now without a licence after South Australia Police conducted Operation Stop Drink Drug Drive over the weekend.
The operation was conducted from 4pm Friday, 20 December to midnight Sunday, 22 December, with a special focus on drivers heading out of the Adelaide CBD on Friday night
Traffic Services Branch Superintendent Shane Johnson said 11,649 alcotests were conducted, with 55 drivers reported for alcohol offences and five drivers failed to comply with a breath test.
Police conducted 272 drug tests with 24 drivers testing positive. Police also impounded 32 vehicles.
"Despite extensive education on the dangers of drink, drug driving and the enforcement efforts of police, some drivers continue to put themselves and other road users at risk," said Superintendent Johnson.
"If you drink or drug drive, police will catch you - we will take your car and we will take your licence."
A 48 year old female from Peterhead was reported driving erratically on Bartley Terrace, West Lakes. Police located her in a car park after allegedly colliding with two parked cars. She was breath tested and allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.307.
On Sunday a 66 year old male from Felixstow was detected drink driving after he collided with a stobie pole in the Marden Shopping Centre car park. He allegedly returned a breath test of 0.200 grams and was issued with a 12 month loss of licence.
On Saturday a 67 year old male from Mount Barker was stopped at a static driver testing site on the Princes Highway at Littlehampton. It's alleged he had a blood alcohol reading of 0.147 and returned a positive drug test for cannabis. His vehicle was impounded, and he was issued a six month loss of licence.
"We're asking drivers to please do the right thing. Remember these holidays life is a gift -we urge everyone to drive safety this Christmas period."
