Insurers have received more than 7,000 claims related to the Mid North Coast and Hunter Regions floods as of today (see table over).
Claims numbers have been steadily increasing over the past week as residents and business owners have been able to get back into properties to assess the damage and begin the clean-up.
The Insurance Council and insurers are focussed on assisting communities in the recovery and have prioritised making clean-up and claims guidance as accessible as possible.
This includes direct text messages to policyholders, updates in insurer apps, and having representatives on the ground in centres across the region.
The Taree Insurance Hub has been supporting residents since Tuesday continuing through to 13 June, and an additional Hub has been set up in Port Macquarie for the remainder of this week.
Details of the Hubs are:
Port Macquarie
Location: Corner Gore St and Gordan St
Dates: 29 May to 1 June
Opening hours: 10am to 6pm (Thursday), 10am to 4pm (Friday), 10am to 3pm (weekends)
Taree
Location: Taree Leagues Sports Centre
Dates: 27 May to 13 June
Opening hours: 10am to 5pm
Quotes attributable to ICA CEO Andrew Hall:
Our insurance hubs are making it easier and smoother for people to make claims or ask questions directly of their insurer.
When a community is impacted by a large scale event, face-to-face support through a claims process is incredibly important, which is why the insurance industry has invested in significantly uplifting consumer service staff and sending resources directly to those effected.
Recovery from a flood doesn't happen overnight, and the insurance industry will continue to direct support and resources into the region over the coming months.
