Quarterly goods and services by country

  • Total exports of goods and services for the March 2025 quarter were $29.6 billion, up from $25.9 billion in the March 2024 quarter.
  • Total imports of goods and services for the March 2025 quarter were $27.9 billion, up from $26.1 billion in the March 2024 quarter.
  • The total two-way trade for the March 2025 quarter was $57.5 billion.

Total services exports rose $675 million to $9.6 billion in the March 2025 quarter compared with the March 2024 quarter

The top movements of our services export categories were:

  • other business services, up $192 million to $874 million
  • travel services, up $183 million to $5.6 billion
  • charges for the use of intellectual property services, up $78 million to $511 million
  • transportation services, up $67 million to $1.2 billion
  • personal, cultural, and recreational services, down $79 million to $213 million.

Total services imports rose $635 million to $8.1 billion in the March 2025 quarter compared with the March 2024 quarter.

The top movements of our services import categories were:

  • telecommunication services, up $187 million to $1.1 billion
  • other business services, up $180 million to $1.5 billion
  • transportation services, up $176 million to $1.7 billion
  • travel services, up $90 million to $1.7 billion
  • insurance and pension services, down $70 million to $885 million.

Overseas trade indexes (OTI)

Movements are compared with the December 2024 quarter. All prices are unadjusted; all volumes and values are seasonally adjusted unless otherwise stated.

  • The merchandise (goods) terms of trade rose 1.9 percent.
  • Export prices for goods rose 7.1 percent and import prices rose 5.1 percent.
  • Export volumes for goods rose 4.6 percent and import volumes fell 2.4 percent.
  • Export values for goods rose 13 percent and import values rose 5.2 percent.
  • The services terms of trade rose 4.2 percent.
  • Services export prices rose 3.2 percent, while import prices fell 0.8 percent.

The diagram shows two-way trade was up 11 percent to $57.5 billion. On the left-hand side of the diagram, total exports were up 14 percent to $29.6 billion. Goods exports were up 18 percent to $20.0 billion, and services exports were up 7.6 percent to $9.6 billion. On the right-hand side of the diagram, total imports were up 6.9 percent to $27.9 billion. Goods imports were up 6.3 percent to $19.9 billion, and services imports were up 8.6 percent to $8.1 billion. Note: Figures are compiled using balance of payments concepts.
