The Department of Transport (DoT) has advised Campaspe Shire Council that it is proceeding with the closure of the intersection at Trevaskis and Hawdon Roads, Wyuna, as planned from mid-March 2021.
Campaspe Mayor, Cr Chrissy Weller said confirmation from DoT that the closure is proceeding, despite community and Council requests that it be deferred pending review of the community consultation process, was a disappointment.
"Council has already been incorrectly named by DoT staff in communications with local residents, as having a decision-making role in the closure, when it doesn't and didn't," Cr Weller said.
"While the public notice on page four of today's edition of the Riverine Herald corrects the public record, that it is a State Government project, it was not as explicit as Council would have preferred."
Cr Weller said that Council sought to have the project deferred, while the consultation process was reviewed, but accepts that DoT is the decision maker and has elected to proceed.
"But that does not mean Council agrees with their decision," Cr Weller added.
