Intl Women's Day: Events Launch Across Territory

NT Government

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is proud to support community-led celebrations for International Women's Day (IWD) on 8 March.

More than $108,000 has been awarded in grants and sponsorships to help deliver a diverse range of events across the Territory.

These funded initiatives will be featured in the official IWD Calendar of Events, ensuring widespread participation and recognition of women's achievements.

Minister for Youth, Seniors and Equality Jinson Charls said the CLP Government remained committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls across the region.

"With a female Speaker, Chief Minister, and Opposition Leader, this marks a significant step toward greater representation and equality in our government. It's inspiring to see women leading from the front, shaping the future of the Northern Territory," said Mr Charls.

"International Women's Day is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions and achievements of women across the Northern Territory while continuing our progress towards gender equality," said Mr Charls.

"This year, we are proud to support 39 community-driven events, with 15 new applicants or events, ensuring that women's voices, talents, and aspirations are recognised and celebrated.

"These events will celebrate women's contributions, inspire participation, and encourage meaningful conversations about equality."

Aligning with the United Nations theme for 2025, 'March Forward,' the funded events mark the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action-a landmark global agenda for gender equality.

Funded events include:

Casuarina Lions Club - Financial Independence Workshops: Free workshops aimed at equipping women with financial literacy skills to promote economic independence and long-term success.

Wurli Wurlinjang Aboriginal Corporation - Katherine Women March Forward: An art and photography exhibition showcasing the lives and achievements of Katherine women, featuring guest speakers and community submissions.

Hannah Illingworth - 2025 Qxeens of the Amp: A hip-hop event celebrating women and non-binary artists, promoting diversity, creativity, and equality through music and art.
