Investigation Continues Into Fatal Fire - Truganina

Detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad are appealing for information following a fatal house fire in Truganina this morning.

Emergency services were initially called to reports of a fire at a residential property on Dover Street about 2.30am on Thursday, 16 January.

A 28-year-old Hoppers Crossing woman was inside the property at the time, which belongs to one of her family members.

The woman died at the scene and the three-storey townhouse has been completely destroyed.

A crime scene was established and an arson chemist has attended the property this morning.

Detectives from the Arson and Explosives squad are investigating and the fire is being treated as suspicious.

While the exact circumstances of the fire are still being established, it's believed that shortly after 2am two people got out of a dark coloured vehicle parked outside the address.

A significant explosion then occurs and the pair leave the area, with the woman inside the property subsequently calling triple zero (000) to say the home is alight.

Detectives are treating the fire as a targeted attack, however police have not been able to establish any reason why the woman or her family would be targeted in this way.

Investigators are looking to see who may live in the area of the fire and the potential for this to have been a case of mistaken identity.

A significant CCTV canvas is underway and police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has CCTV or dash cam footage to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
