Officers from Strike Force Vulcan are investigating the circumstances surrounding a bushfire in the Star Swamp Reserve on Tuesday 21 March 2023.
About 12.50pm, Police and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) were called to the fire which started in the Reserve near Elvire Street in Watermans Bay. The fire quickly spread through the Reserve to Marmion Avenue. The fire threatened nearby homes and burnt approximately 6.5 hectares of the Reserve.
Strike Force Vulcan officers believe the fire was deliberately lit and urge anyone with dash-cam vision of Beach Road, Marmion Ave or Reid Highway between 12pm and 1.30pm, or with CCTV around Elvire Street during this time, or who saw any suspicious persons or activity in the area, to come forward.
