Police are investigating reports of shots fired at South Granville overnight and arrested three men after a stolen vehicle was allegedly set on fire nearby.
About 10.30pm (Thursday 20 January 2022), police were called to Bennett Road at South Granville, following reports of shots fired.
Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended, with assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad and PolAir, commenced a line search of the area.
Following an extensive search, no damage, projectiles, or injured persons were located.
While police were on scene, officers were alerted to a vehicle fire at Ostend Street, South Granville.
Police and Fire & Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze.
The BMW X5 – stolen from a property at Elanora Heights in June 2021 – was extensively damaged and will be forensically examined.
Following inquiries, officers arrested three men – aged 20, 23 and 25 – nearby. All three were taken to Granville Police Station, as inquiries continue.
A short time later, police received further information relating to an earlier report of shots fired.
Officers attended the intersection of Wells and Clyde Streets, South Granville, where a Toyota Hilux utility was located with damage to the front bulbar.
The vehicle has since been towed for forensic examination and investigations into the incidents are continuing.
