Police have commenced investigations into a public place shooting in Sydney's west yesterday.
About 7.30pm on Thursday (2 September 2021), police were called to Blaxcell Street at South Granville, following reports of a public place shooting.
Officers were told that shots had been fired from a parked car into a passing ute.
A short time later, police conducting proactive patrols of the area, observed a rental vehicle being driven at speed from South Granville.
With assistance from PolAir, the vehicle was located at a home at Bulga Lane, Pemulway.
The driver – 21-year-old man – was arrested by officers attached to the State Crime Command's Raptor Squad following a short foot pursuit.
During the pursuit, the man allegedly threw a bag behind a pole, which was found to contain $30,000 cash, four mobile phones and a knife.
A further mobile phone was found in a search of the man's clothing.
The Ingleburn man was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with not comply with noticed direction re s 7/8/9 - COVID-19, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, deal with property proceeds of crime and enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.
He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday 20 October 2021.
Following the arrest, a perimeter was established at a home at Bulga Lane, where a further two men – aged 28 and 26 – were subsequently arrested.
The men were taken to Parramatta Police Station and spoken to by investigators, before being released pending further inquiries.
A crime scene was established at South Granville and will be examined by specialist forensic police.
Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command, with assistance from the State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad, have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officers are working to determine if the rental vehicle is linked to the shooting.
As investigations continue, police executed a crime scene warrant at a home at Blaxcell Street, South Granville.
During the search, police located a grey ute, which was seized for further forensic examination.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident, or who may have dashcam footage from the area, to come forward.
No injuries have been reported.
