Investing in our schools: Increased funding for students with additional needs

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government has announced funding of $12.7 million over four years to better support students with additional needs attending mainstream schools.

The plan ensures these students will receive an increased level of funding support, particularly those who are eligible for dedicated special-needs schools.

Schools can use the funding for specialist teachers, key support staff, learning resources and therapeutic behaviour programs to ensure students with additional needs are able to learn in inclusive, supportive environments.

The funding, which will flow to schools in 2022, is allocated through the School Resourcing Model.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Education Lauren Moss:

"Many school communities right across the Territory have spoken to me about accessing more support for students with disabilities and additional needs.

"This allocation goes some way to address that need by providing schools with additional funds so they can bring on more specialist teachers and support staff as well as access specialist learning resources and programs to better support their students.

"The Territory Labor Government continues to invest record funding in education to give our kids the best start in life.

"We have listened to what schools and families have told us about the need for more specialist support for students with additional needs and we have acted."
