New opportunities to get active are coming to regional areas as part of the INVIGOR8 TR Upskill initiative.
Toowoomba Regional Council Environment and Community Committee Portfolio Leader Cr Tim McMahon said the INVIGOR8 TR Upskill initiative was the latest program to complement Council's Change Project.
"While the activities are spread throughout the Region, we launched the INVIGOR8 TR Upskill initiative to grow our programs in our regional areas," Cr McMahon said.
"The key target areas include Cambooya, Clifton, Cooyar, Goombungee, Gowrie Junction, Kingsthorpe, Millmerran, Wyreema and Yarraman.
"Recipients of the initiative receive training and an equipment kit to assist in delivering low-cost classes to their local regional areas which will help to provide more opportunities under the Change Project.
"Our Change Project provides residents with a wide-range of low-cost activities, encouraging everyone to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
"Local providers of activities such as yoga, gym stick and pilates will be supported under the program.
"By focusing on local providers we're able to create more accessible and sustainable options to increase participation in physical activity across the Region."
Funding of the INVIGOR8 TR Upskill initiative has been made possible through the Active Kit Grant Program through the Queensland Government. The Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport is working in collaboration with Health and Wellbeing Queensland on this initiative, with co-investment across agencies to support more Queenslanders to lead healthy and active lifestyles.
