Iran-born Man Charged With Visa Breach In Victoria

An Iran-born man is expected to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court today (Friday, 3 January, 2025) charged with allegedly refusing to wear an electronic monitoring device in accordance with his visa-mandated conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 43, on 3 January, 2025, after he was located in Melbourne.

It will be alleged the man breached a condition of his Commonwealth visa by refusing to have his electronic monitoring device fitted between 2 December, 2024, and 17 December, 2024.

The man has been charged with one count of failing to comply with his visa-mandated condition to wear an electronic monitoring device, contrary to section 76D(2) of the Migration Act (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.
