Northern Rivers Community Gallery (NRCG) Ballina presents four exciting new exhibitions from artists across the region, with collaborative and solo projects exploring material, personal, emotional and environmental landscapes respectively through diverse mediums. January is an excellent time to visit NRCG, being the first of many innovative exhibitions for 2022.
Breaking Through: Transition to transformation | Anne Leon,
Belle Budden, Michael Baker + Potts
This exhibition engages a cross-cultural exploration of the processes of healing through fire, flood and COVID-19. Four artists will document and reflect on their journeys from isolation to connection. Uniquely, this exhibition is an innovative collaboration between four local multi-disciplinary artists who originally came together for a community arts project for Aboriginal Women.
In Absentia | Jill Runciman, Katie Alleva + Rebecca Tapscott
In Absentia, an exhibition by three Northern Rivers artists, examines the impact of absence on the physical, environmental and emotional landscape. Using a variety of media, including painting, printmaking, and photographic techniques, each artist explores the idea of absence to create unique yet complementary works.
My Hands Hold Everything | Portia Sarris
Portia Sarris is a photography-based artist that aims to create intimate bodies of work that explore themes such as adolescence and identity by curating and composing photographs, incorporating a variety of mediums and processes such as text, archival material, collaging, scanning and painting with the intention of depicting both the physical and emotional world we exist in.
3 | Jodi Woodward, Katrina Hill + Eliza McInnes
A collaborative group project, 3, draws upon a mixture of disciplines; painting, ceramics and expanded drawing. Each artist individually responds to a pre-selected colour palette, forming a cohesive installation that binds together each artist's creation through similarities in pigments – combining the known and unknown.
All exhibitions open Wednesday, 12 January 2022 and continue until Sunday, 6 March 2022. The official launch event is Thursday, 20 January from 5.30pm – 7.30pm.
