- Jeff Goldblum and Karl Urban have been added to the star-studded cast of "Thor: Ragnarok". Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson and Mark Ruffalo are also confirmed to star in the third installment of the "Thor" film series, AceShowbiz reports.
In making the announcement, Marvel also reveals descriptions of the characters to be played by the newly-joined actors. Jeff will play Grandmaster, a cosmic being who plays chess with lesser life-forms such as humans, while Karl will star as Asgard warrior Skurge.
Tessa will play the classic character Valkyrie, who in the comics has blond hair and blue eyes, while Cate will star as the "mysterious and powerful new villain" Hela.
Kevin Feige said in a statement, "The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl and Mark to the cast, we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet. The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can't be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible."
Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins will reprise their respective roles in "Thor: Ragnarok". According to THR, Jaimie Alexander will not be returning as the warrior Sif because she reportedly had a scheduling conflict with her NBC show "Blindspot".
Directed by Taika Waititi, "Thor: Ragnarok" is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on July 28, 2017.
