The Swan Hill Regional Library is delighted to welcome Jenani Therone on Wednesday, 27 November at 7pm for an author talk about her recently launched book, Of Service. This beautifully crafted book pays tribute to the sacrifices made by Australian veterans.
The evening promises to be a chance for engaging, thought-provoking, and significant conversations as Therone shares her experiences in creating this unique compilation. It honours the remarkable individuals who have fought for the freedoms we enjoy.
Swan Hill Rural City Council Libraries Manager, Camille Cullinan, is eager to welcome Therone back to the library after her successful 2019 photographic exhibition, 'Land is Family.' She anticipates that this event will inspire meaningful conversations within the community.
"Of Service offers a profoundly moving testament to those who have served our country, paying homage to the sacrifices these incredible humans have made while helping us to understand the struggles and vulnerabilities they face."
Therone began her career as a dietician, where she discovered the many challenges, including mental health struggles, which veterans face. This insight inspired her to write a book that sheds light on life after service, with the goal of bridging the gap between civilian and veteran communities.
"Of Service is an act of devotion – a project spanning three and a half years, encompassing 101 veterans, 36,000 kilometres and over 6,000 production hours.
"During the evening, our audience members will learn what inspired Jenani Therone - author, artist and photographer to complete this remarkable 656-page work capturing the stories of veterans aged between 27 and 102 years," explained Ms Cullinan.
Ms Cullinan emphasised that the library is privileged to host Therone as she shares the deeply personal impact of her journey.
"We encourage community members to come along to this author talk,"
"It's a unique opportunity to support Therone's wonderful work and honour our courageous veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country," said Ms Cullinan.
