Tuesday, 3 June 2025: Jetstar has announced it will take off from Newcastle to Bali for the first time on 21 October 2025.
Operating three times a week using Jetstar's A321LR fleet, the Newcastle to Bali (Denpasar) route will provide more than 70,000 seats annually between the two destinations.
With a direct flight time of just over six hours, the new service will eliminate the need for passengers from the Newcastle region to take connecting flights, making it easier than ever for people to experience Bali's famous beaches, vibrant cultural heritage, and renowned hospitality
This milestone marks Newcastle's return to international travel, the first ongoing international route since 2020, and reinforces Jetstar's continued growth, allowing Aussie's to takeoff more for less.
The announcement of the new route also comes just one month after Jetstar launched direct flights from the Gold Coast to Bali, commencing 1 August 2025.
Bali remains Jetstar's most popular international destination, with around 100 flights taking off to Bali each week, and one-way fares from as low as $148 this year (e.g. Perth to Bali (Denpasar)).
To celebrate today's announcement, Jetstar is launching a 24-hour Route Launch Sale with one-way sale fares from Newcastle to Bali (Denpasar) available from midday today AEST from just $199^ at Jetstar.com.
Jetstar Group CEO, Steph Tully said the new international route is an exciting milestone as Jetstar continues to significantly expand its network.
"We're thrilled to be the airline to launch Newcastle's first international flights in more than five years with our new direct service from Newcastle to Bali.
"Jetstar is committed to making travel more accessible, and people living in and around Newcastle will no longer need to drive to other airports to fly overseas, which means more time and money can go toward their holiday.
"We want to thank Newcastle Airport and the NSW Government for their support in making travel more accessible."
Federal Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell said: "This new direct service between Newcastle and Bali is a win for regional connectivity, tourism, and the broader economy. It opens the door to new opportunities - not just for holidaymakers, but for businesses and communities across the Hunter region."
"More international connections like this one mean local exporters, travel and tourism operators can access new markets and grow their footprint globally."
"This new route offers convenience and choice for travellers, giving more Australians the chance to fly direct to one of our most popular overseas destinations without needing to go through a capital city airport."
"This is about more than just a new flight path - it's about boosting local jobs, attracting investment, and strengthening ties between our regions and the Indo-Pacific.
NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism, Steve Kamper said: "The Minns Labor Government is proud to have worked with Newcastle Airport and Jetstar to secure Newcastle's first ever international route outside Australasia, signalling the start of a new era of growth for Newcastle and the Hunter region.
"Not only will this strategic investment boost the capacity of Newcastle Airport, it will open the Hunter and the Mid-North Coast to a major South-East Asian transport hub and a wealth of opportunity.
"The first ongoing international flight for Newcastle Airport is a significant moment for the region's visitor economy - and we're only just getting started. I look forward to continuing to work with more airlines to grow the airport's network and capacity."
Linc Horton, CEO of Newcastle Airport said the return of international flights is an exciting step forward for connectivity and opportunity in the community.
"We're proud to be delivering what our (Hunter) region has long asked for ... direct international flights from their local airport.
This achievement shows what the Hunter is capable of when we aim high. Bali is one of Australia's most loved destinations and is the first of many exciting destinations we will deliver."
