The daily Airbus A320 service will provide more than 2500 new low fares seats each week between the two destinations.

The launch of today's flights follows a landmark partnership between Jetstar and Brisbane Airport which unlocked about half a million new seats a year between Brisbane and some of Jetstar's most popular international destinations.

To celebrate the route's launch, Jetstar has one-way fares available between Melbourne Avalon Airport and Brisbane from just $95^ at jetstar.com.

In Jetstar's 20th year, these new direct flights continue the airline's mission to democratise air travel by providing everyday low fares so more people can afford to fly.

Jetstar Group CEO, Steph Tully said the airline is excited to offer new low fares to Melbourne Avalon Airport for customers in South East Queensland.

"Creating a direct link between Brisbane and Melbourne Avalon Airport will provide even more options for Queenslanders wanting to travel to Victoria at an affordable price.

"Just 45 minutes from Melbourne's CBD, Melbourne Avalon Airport will give customers from Brisbane easy access to the Victorian capital as well as the state's beautiful Surf Coast region and The Great Ocean Road.

"It's been 20 years since we first took to the skies, allowing more Australians to travel for less and on the back of strong demand for low fares travel, we're expanding our network to the biggest it has ever been.

"We thank Brisbane Airport for its continued support of low fares flying."

Brisbane Airport CEO, Gert-Jan de Graaff said, "This is one of five new Jetstar routes announced in the past year at Brisbane Airport and we've seen Queenslanders eagerly embrace low fare travel.
