Jetstar's Inaugural Melbourne-Hervey Bay Flight Departs

Thursday, 20 June 2024: Jetstar's first ever flight between Melbourne and Hervey Bay takes off today - marking the first time any airline has operated the route.

The three per week Airbus A320 service will provide more than 1,100 low fares seats each week between Melbourne and Hervey Bay.

Launched in partnership with the Fraser Coast Council, the flights will give Melbournians direct access to this spectacular Queensland region.

To celebrate the launch, Jetstar has one-way fares available between Melbourne and Hervey Bay from just $151^ at jetstar.com.

In Jetstar's 20th year of operation, these new direct flights continue the airline's mission to help customers take off to more places, more often through great low fares.

Jetstar's Executive Manager, Customer, Jenn Armor said Jetstar was excited to be able to introduce Melbournians to a new part of Queensland.

"We know how much Melbournians love to head North, especially during winter, and we're looking forward to giving them direct access to a new Queensland destination on our low fares network.

"Hervey Bay is a bit of a hidden gem for Victorians as there's never been a direct flight from Melbourne to this part Queensland.

"Aside from being the gateway to K'gari, Hervey Bay offers pristine, calm beaches that are perfect for young families, access to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, and it's one of the best places in the world for whale encounters.

Fraser Coast Deputy Mayor, Cr Paul Truscott said: "We're excited about the opportunities this new route brings. It's more than just flights; it's about forging new connections, exploring new destinations, and inviting southerners to experience the Fraser Coast while giving us the chance to enjoy everything Melbourne has to offer.

"The introduction of direct flights from Melbourne to Hervey Bay by Jetstar will significantly boost tourism, providing easier access for visitors and fostering economic growth in the Fraser Coast region."

Fraser Coast Tourism & Events general manager, Martin Simons said: "There are not too many places in Australia where you can step off a two and a half hour flight and in a short time be enjoying pristine, world-class wilderness.

"The Fraser Coast region, home to World Heritage Listed K'gari and nearby to Lady Elliot Island on the Southern Great Barrier Reef has kilometres of unspoiled beaches, walking tracks through rain forest, crystal clear freshwater lakes and amazing reef diving."
