"Ai Group welcomes the appointment of Professor Peter Dawkins as interim Director of Jobs and Skills Australia. Jobs and Skills Australia has important work to do and with his deep experience and understanding of the challenges, Professor Dawkins will know there is no time to waste," Innes Willox, Chief Executive of the national employer association Ai Group said today.
"Not only are we facing unrelenting skill shortages we need to urgently build on the early work to create the skills base to transition to a clean economy.
"Jobs and Skills Australia will also have clear initial focus on the importance of digital skills to underpin our digital transformation across the economy. These skills range from digital literacy, cyber security and other technical specialisations.
"Promoting and developing foundation skills is another core priority. Lifting the language, literacy and numeracy levels of the working age population is a social and economic imperative.
"We look forward to working closely with Professor Dawkins and Jobs and Skills Australia to tackle the challenges ahead," Mr Willox said.
