John Elliott's TRAG Photo Exhibit Marks 50 Years

An exhibition documenting photographs taken by consummate storyteller John Elliott across his extensive career will be displayed at Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery from Saturday, December 7 to Sunday, February 23, 2025.

The exhibition, Almost A True Story - 50 years of photography, celebrates John's devotion to photographing the people and places of regional Australia for 50 years.

Known for his social documentary photography, his portraits of Australian identities and country music legends celebrate the lives and passions of people across this country.

The photographs in the exhibition deliver new ways of looking at the familiar. From intimate portraits of family members to capturing the places and people that shape Toowoomba and beyond, he sees society through an artist's eye.

Doug Hall, former Director of the Queensland Art Gallery notes: "It's always John Elliott's empathy and interest which holds our attention no matter how quietly measured, or capriciously impulsive certain images may appear".
