In the spirit of gratitude and generosity, Johns Hopkins University and Medicine, in partnership with St. Anthony's of Padua Catholic Church, hosted its yearly Vernon Rice Memorial Turkey Program, distributing more than 300 turkey and produce boxes to community residents.
Notably, the outreach extended beyond individual families; five community organizations were also among the recipients of turkeys and produce boxes, including partners We Our Us, Men and Families Center, McElderry Park Community Association, Bayview Community Association, and New Shiloh Baptist Church in Turner Station.

This year, the Vernon Rice Memorial Turkey Program received substantial support from Johns Hopkins employees, who donated close to $12,000—a contribution that marks a significant increase from previous years. Additionally, Johns Hopkins Alumni contributed $4,000.
On Monday, Nov. 20, 292 additional turkeys are set to be distributed to families identified by 13 community partners. This collaborative effort involves community organizations such as The Mix Church, First Apostolic Faith Church, Church of the Redeemed of the Lord, Roberta's House, Stephanie Powell Ministries, Charm City Land Trusts, William Paca Elementary School, New Broadway East Community Association, South Clifton Park Community Association, 29th Street Community Association, Good Tidings Baptist Church, Fountain Baptist Church, and Historic East Baltimore Community Action Coalition.
"As we come together to celebrate Thanksgiving, this long-standing program highlights the power of community collaboration and the spirit of giving," said Maria Harris Tildon, vice president for government, community, and economic partnerships. "St. Anthony's of Padua Catholic Church and its partners, along with the remarkable support from Johns Hopkins employees and alumni, are not only ensuring that families in need have a festive meal, but also embodying the true essence of the holiday season."
