In the lead up to National Reconciliation Week, City of Darwin is joining forces with the Darwin Beach Choir to provide a unique opportunity for the community to learn the Voices for Reconciliation song, Solid Rock by Goanna.
From 5:30 pm on Friday 11 April 2025, everyone is welcome to join in at the Darwin Ski Club to learn the song, as part of a national program with Reconciliation Australia.
City of Darwin Chief Executive Officer, Simone Saunders, encouraged everyone to take part in the event, noting further events will take place during Reconciliation Week which starts next month.
"The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2025 is Bridging Now to Next, which encourages looking ahead to foster a united and respectful nation," Ms Saunders said.
"City of Darwin is committed to strengthening the relationship between First Nations people and others, as well as celebrating and demonstrating respect for the first people of these lands, the Larrakia people.
"This event with the Darwin Beach Choir is a great opportunity to get involved in a fun and engaging way and you don't need to be an accomplished singer to take part.
"We will release details about additional Reconciliation Week activities soon," she said.
National Reconciliation Week is observed annually in Australia from 27 May to 3 June and aims to celebrate the history and culture of First Nations people. Reconciliation Australia are working with Choirs around the country to learn Solid Rock as part of their Voices for Reconciliation program.
City of Darwin is committed to forging stronger relationships with Australia's First Peoples and organisations, acknowledging there is significant learning to be achieved for a shared future.
