We're seeking expressions of interest to fill a member position on the Great Artesian Basin Stakeholder Advisory Committee (the Committee).
Individuals should have a strong connection with, or a good understanding of groundwater matters and water management in the Great Artesian Basin. They should also have strong knowledge and insights into the dynamics of Basin communities. This includes the commercial and social aspects.
The Committee provides a sounding board for the implementation of the Great Artesian Basin Strategic Management Plan.
The Committee provides advice to governments and Basin Ministers on a range of relevant issues, including:
- the sustainability of the artesian and sub-artesian water resources
- the environmental, cultural, economic and social and significance of the water
- whole-of-Basin policies and initiatives applied and developed by Basin governments.
Members bring a range of skills and knowledge to their role. This can include expertise in:
- community engagement
- water resources policy
- water sciences
- First Nations cultural water management.
The successful applicant will be appointed by the Australian Government Minister for the Environment and Water for up to three-years at the discretion of the Minister. The applicant may be re-appointed for additional terms.
