Police and Transport Safety Officers conducted a combined traffic operation at Cambridge yesterday, to promote road safety and remove unsafe motorists from the roads.
Senior Sergeant Penny Reardon, said "police from Bellerive Uniform and Road Policing Services were joined by Transport Safety Officers for a two-hour road safety operation on the Tasman Highway, near Barilla Bay."
"360 vehicles were intercepted, with random breath tests conducted and checks of vehicles, licences, and tow capacities."
During the operation, several offences were detected:
- 1 driver was detected exceeding .05
- 3 drivers returned positive results for driving with prescribed illicit substances
- 3 traffic infringements were issued for minor traffic offences including unsecured loads and unregistered vehicles
- 18 defect notices were issued.
"Police will continue to patrol the roads and urge all motorists to obey the road rules to help prevent crashes," said Senior Sergeant Reardon.
"Police would like to remind all drivers to ensure that their load is securely tied down and to ensure that the tow capacity of their vehicle is adequate for the load that they have under tow – this is particularly important for those who will be heading away on camping trips for the upcoming Easter break."
