Year 9 Junee High School student Lyla Fellows has been selected to sing alongside some of Australia's greatest performing artists on the steps of the Sydney Opera House to celebrate Australia Day 2025.
This young performer is set to sing to predicted crowds of up to 55,000 on Sunday 26 January alongside more than 100 students as part of the NSW Public Schools Choir.
Lyla isn't a stranger to large audiences, last year performing on the Pulse Sunraysia Tour. The budding singer will perform a medley of Australian classics such as INXS's Never Tear Us Apart, the Sheppard hit Geronimo and Djapana (Treaty) by Indigenous artist Yothu Yindi, as well as the Schools Spectacular original song, Supernova. The choir will feature 111 students from 68 school across the state, with Lyla travelling second furthest for the concert, second only to students from Albury High School. The NSW Public Schools Choir will be led by eight Pulse Alive principal vocalists.
Pulse Alive is a large-scale Department of Education – The Arts Unit event, providing high-quality opportunities in the performing arts for students and teachers from NSW public schools in Greater Sydney and beyond. The students will perform in the 'pre-show', before the live broadcast kicks off and will also provide the backing choir for the main show, which will also be broadcast live on ABC TV and ABC iview from 7.30pm.
