While every birth is memorable, one delivery will particularly stand out for Epworth Freemasons obstetrician Dr Stephen Cole.
He received a call that Caitlyn, pregnant with twins, was in labour so he raced to the hospital – to find she had delivered her first baby in the elevator on the way to the birthing suite.
"When I took another lift and stepped out, I immediately realised what had happened," Dr. Cole said.
"We were able to move her from the lift into her birth suite and assess what was going on with her second baby and ensure the second baby was delivered safely.
"Everything happened very quickly. Caitlyn got here just in time."
Parents Caitlyn and Josh expressed their deep gratitude to the maternity team at Epworth Freemasons, whose specialised training prepared them to handle situations like Caitlyn's with expertise and care.
"Once those elevator doors opened and there were staff there, Caitlyn and Josh felt comfortable and calm," Dr Cole said.
