Tsuyoshi Kaneko, MD, chief of the cardiac surgery section in the Department of Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named the John M. Shoenberg Chair in Cardiovascular Disease.
The chair is supported by The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
Kaneko, who was installed in February on the Medical Campus, is noted for his expertise in transcatheter therapeutics and endovascular approaches to cardiac surgery, including transcatheter aortic valve repair (TAVR), transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve repair and replacement, and endovascular thoracic aortic aneurysm repair. He also specializes in minimally invasive and complex valvular and aortic surgery.
Before joining the faculty at Washington University, Kaneko spent eight years at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he served as surgical director of the Structural Heart Program, director of Aortic and Endovascular Surgery, and director of Clinical Outcomes Research.
