Tasmanians are being urged to prepare and heed the warnings for a rare and dangerous winds forecast from this afternoon and coming days.
With severe weather occurring across the state, particularly in the north, the Government is encouraging Tasmanians to make informed decisions to stay safe.
A State Operations Centre has been stood up to monitor the expected winds and will inform alerts to ensure Tasmanians are kept up to date.
Premier Rockliff thanked the emergency services who are working 24/7 to keep Tasmanians safe.
"The Government is standing ready to provide all the necessary resources and whatever supports are needed, will be made available.
"As Tasmanians, we come together and help each other during the tough times. The next few days will be no different.
"I want to thank our emergency workers who have been and will continue to work overtime to protect and keep us safe.
"I also want to thank TasNetworks and their workers who are working hard to get the power back on for the thousands of homes who are currently without power."
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis said Tasmania's emergency services are resourced and prepared to assist the community, but we need people to make informed decisions to help keep everyone safe.
"It's really important Tasmanians take the necessary precautions over the next few hours and coming days. Particularly when it comes to driving on our roads; drive to the conditions and stay out of flood waters.
"Be aware of fallen debris, and follow all instructions and road signs from emergency services. They are there to keep you safe.
