With severe weather now impacting our State, particularly in the North-West and North, we urge people to make informed decisions to stay safe.
As we've heard, we're now seeing the impacts of intense rain and flooding in multiple areas, and Tasmania SES has issued a Flood Emergency Warning for Railton and surrounds.
It is imperative that everyone heeds the advice of our emergency service personnel – and make an informed decision on when and how to safely evacuate.
There are currently three evacuation centres open:
* Railton – Railton 'Green Shed', 52 Crockers Street, Railton;
* Latrobe Memorial Hall – 170 Gilbert Street, Latrobe; and
* Deloraine Community Centre - 8 Alverston Drive, Deloraine.
Additional centres can be opened if required.
Conditions outside and on the roads are unsafe due to the intense rain and flooding - and I urge people to restrict all non-essential travel.
Where it's essential to travel on the roads – to safely evacuate an area – drive with extreme caution, and never attempt to drive through or enter flood waters.
This weather event is significant, and we can expect that other areas may be impacted by flooding and Emergency Warnings over the coming hours and days.
We urge everyone in the forecast areas to keep up to date with warnings and advice from official emergency services including the Bureau of Meteorology and TasAlert.
Emergency services are resourced and prepared to assist the community, but we need people to make informed decisions to help keep everyone safe.
In the event of an emergency call Triple Zero (000), or for SES assistance call 132 500.
We sincerely thank the emergency services for their efforts over the last 24 hours.
