Kempsey's Call To Conserve: Are You Water Wise?

Kempsey Shire Council

In the heart of the Macleay Valley, water does more than just quench our thirst—it fuels our health, sustains our landscapes and keeps our community thriving. During this year's National Water Week, residents were encouraged to reflect on the vital role of water in our daily lives and how, together, we can make a significant impact in conserving this precious resource for the future.

Celebrating the dedication of Kempsey Shire Council's Water and Sewer team, National Water Week gave our community a chance to appreciate the work that often goes unnoticed. These water heroes work tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring that thousands of residents have access to clean, safe drinking water.

From treatment and infrastructure to ongoing maintenance, their commitment guarantees the quality and reliability of our water supply, even as demand grows and climate conditions change.

Kempsey Shire Council's Director of Utilities, Wes Trotter, spoke to the importance of this mission, saying, "Water is the heartbeat of our community. Conserving it today means we can count on it tomorrow. Each of us plays a part in safeguarding our water supply for future generations."

His words serve as a reminder that conserving water isn't just about reducing our household usage—it's a collective effort that will benefit the entire Macleay Valley.

This year's theme, 'Accelerating Action,' called on all Australians to take immediate steps to protect our water resources.

Council produced 3 short films with various Water and Sewer team members to outline the crucial work they do in our community. These stories were produced to recognise the importance water plays in our lives.

Water is life, and we can sometimes take it for granted. Water is fundamental to our health and well-being and thriving communities, from drinking it to cleaning with it to swimming in it.

While National Water Week may have come to a close, the message remains clear: each resident of the Macleay Valley has a role in shaping a sustainable water future. Whether it's fixing household leaks, reducing water wastage or simply raising awareness, these small actions build a foundation for long-term water security.

As Kempsey Shire Council continues its efforts to provide reliable and safe drinking water, we invite everyone to join this movement to conserve and protect. Let's honour our water team's hard work and make every drop count, building a resilient and sustainable future—one drop at a time.
