Changes to Moira Shire Council's kerbside collection services are just around the corner! Starting the first week of February, the new arrangements will help reduce landfill costs, promote sustainability and create a cleaner future for our community.
From Monday 3 February, Red Lid Landfill Bins will move to fortnightly collections, while Green Lid Organic Bins (food and green waste) will be collected weekly. Council's kerbside calendar is key to staying on track with collection days, as different areas will see these changes implemented at different times. Be sure to check the calendar to know when changes start for your home.
The calendar is available on Council's website or via the Moira Waste Info App. For those who prefer a hard copy, you can contact Council's Customer Service Centre to have one mailed directly to your home.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said while adapting to these changes might take time, being prepared will make the transition easier for your household.
"Council is embracing these sustainable changes, and we're here to support the community every step of the way."
"The first place to find all the information you need is Council's website or the Moira Waste Info App. If you prefer personal guidance, our staff are available to assist with questions or provide printed materials. Help is just a phone call or visit to a Customer Service Centre away," Dr Emonson said.
The move to a fortnightly landfill collection is designed to encourage the community to reduce waste and to reduce costs.
Reducing landfill starts with understanding what belongs in each bin. By sorting waste correctly, residents can free up space in their landfill bin, prevent recyclable and compostable materials from ending up in landfill, and make the most out of reusing valuable materials.
This change supports the long-term goal of creating a more sustainable future for Moira Shire.
"If you haven't already, now is the time to prepare. Familiarise yourself with your kerbside guide and make sustainable choices to support a cleaner waste stream," Dr Emonson said.
