Kerbside Collection Service Starts Next Week

Mitchell Shire Council's new kerbside collection service will begin on 3 March, marking a significant step toward a more sustainable future.

The four-bin service will see a food and garden organics and glass recycling bin added to the collection service, helping households to better sort their waste and divert more rubbish from landfill. Collection frequencies for general rubbish bins will also change, to fortnightly as part of the new service.

Council has developed a range of tools to help make the transition for residents and businesses as smooth as possible. The My Mitchell app offers a personalised bin collection calendar and handy bin night reminders. Kerbside bin collection schedules can also be accessed on our website.

Printed calendars will also be sent to properties with a bin collection service and will also be available at our customer service and libraries.

What you need to know:

  • Food and Garden Organics (Green Lid): Weekly collection
  • Mixed Recycling (Yellow Lid): Fortnightly collection

Quote from Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall

"We're excited to see our community embrace the new kerbside collection service. By making these changes, we're reducing what goes to landfill, improving environmental outcomes, and lowering waste disposal costs.

"Landfill is expensive, and by removing food and garden organics from the general rubbish bin, we can reduce these costs and create valuable compost that can be reused," he said.

"Don't forget to use your kitchen caddy - it's a simple way to start separating food scraps at home. If you need support or have questions about the changes, our team is here to help."
