Building surveyors are reminded that their building permit template must be in the correct format prescribed in the Building Regulations 2018 and contain all the relevant information required by the Building Act 1993 (the Act) and Regulations.
It has been identified through the VBA's Building Documentation Audit Program (BDAP) and stakeholder feedback that certain information required to be contained on the Form 2 - Building Permit is not being specified.
Two key pieces of information identified as missing from building permits are:
- A natural person for the service of directions, notices and orders, where a builder is a body corporate. This hinders a council's ability to take enforcement action.
- The designated building surveyor's details where a body corporate has accepted the appointment as a private building surveyor under part 6 of the Act.
You can read the latest BDAP report by visiting the VBA website (PDF, 992.55 KB).
The latest versions of the Act and various Building Regulations can be found on the Victorian Government's Victorian Legislation website.
NCC changes coming into effect 1 May 2024
Additional changes in place from 1 May require building surveyors to use the updated Form 2 (DOCX, 32.68 KB), which now covers any exemption or partial compliance to certain livable housing clauses in NCC 2022 that are granted.
