Family First is pleased to announce Elizabeth Kikkert as its lead Senate candidate for the ACT at the upcoming federal election.
Elizabeth is a former long-serving member of the ACT Legislative Assembly and most importantly – a committed mother of five.
"There are tens of thousands of mums and dads in the ACT who share Family First's vision to put family at the centre of public policy.
"They deserve to be able to vote for a pro-family candidate at this election," Elizabeth said. Family First is fighting to cut power prices, protect faith-based schools and keep children and women safe by restoring commonsense to the gender debate.
"Families are in a cost-of-living crisis, and one of the biggest drivers is unaffordable electricity," Elizabeth said.
"It's crucial that faith-based schools have the freedom to employ staff who align with their beliefs and values," she said.
On the protection of children, Elizabeth said:
"Radical gender fluid ideology is negatively impacting young people throughout Australia. Family First is committed to advocating for the protection of children from these detrimental programs and practices, as well as safeguarding girls' and women's sports from the participation of biological males.
"I have found a political party that I am proud to be a member of and that shares my values and my determination to fight for families and the freedoms we hold dear.
"Throughout my life and work, I have witnessed the challenges that families face—whether it's the cost-of-living pressures, accessing quality healthcare, ensuring a quality education for all our children, or creating safe and supportive environments.
"After standing firm in my beliefs and advocating for what I believed to be right and true, I found myself removed from the Liberal party.
"This unexpected turn has only strengthened my resolve to speak out on important issues, regardless of the consequences."
Elizabeth joined Family First weeks before the October ACT Legislative Assembly and only narrowly missed out on retaining her seat.
Family First National Director Lyle Shelton said the party was proud to welcome someone of Elizabeth's character and courage.
