Kilmore's Main Street was buzzing with activity on Saturday April 12, as Mitchell Shire Council, in partnership with the Southern Mitchell Rotary Club's Annual Kilmore Busking Festival, hosted the much-anticipated Community and Volunteer Day.
With over 200 community members attending, the event was a showcase of local connection, volunteer engagement, and creative expression. The Kilmore Art Society added a splash of colour with their Annual Art Show, while the Kilmore SES captivated crowds with engaging demonstrations, flashing sirens, and hands-on activities that highlighted the vital role of first responders.
Families enjoyed a lively atmosphere featuring a petting zoo, a magician, roving entertainers, face painting, and balloon fun-ensuring there was something for everyone.
As part of the day's efforts to highlight local volunteer opportunities, visitors could enter a free raffle at various stalls, resulting in more than 60 entries. In total, eight fantastic prizes were up for grabs, including tickets to Taste of the Goulburn, $250 Mandalay vouchers, and a major getaway package featuring a two-night stay at Trawool Estate with a meal voucher.
A huge thank you goes out to the wonderful community groups that contributed to the success of the event, including:
- Seymour Agricultural Society
- Parkrun Kilmore
- Kilmore Historical Society
- The Centre
- St Vincent de Paul
- Zonta of Mitchell
- Riding for the Disabled
- South Mitchell Neighbourhood Watch, who kept attendees well-fed with a cracking BBQ
The day was made possible thanks to collaboration between Council's Recovery Team, Emergency Management Team, and the Community Development portfolio, demonstrating the power of cross-team planning.
Councillor Humm and Councillor Hanson took the time to engage with stallholders and attendees, reinforcing Council's ongoing commitment to fostering community connection. A special thanks also goes to Victoria Police for their attendance and support.
