King, Townsend Shine at Vic Premier Cricket Awards

Geelong all-rounder Stephanie Townsend has won back-to-back Una Paisley Medals, while Ringwood's David King has taken home his second Ryder Medal after previously winning in 2019/2020 (tied with James Seymour).

Both awards were presented at the Kookaburra Victorian Premier Cricket Awards held at the MCG this evening.

The award caps off a memorable season for veteran King, who this season achieved two impressive personal milestones of 300 Men's Premier 1st XI Matches and 11,000 Premier 1st XI Career Runs.

King notched up 43 votes in his 15 matches this season, 14 votes clear of second placed Jonathan D'Rozario (Richmond) on 29 votes, with Shobit Singh (Dandenong) finishing in third place on 27 votes. This result is the equal second biggest winning vote margin and equal second highest polling for a winner in the history of the award.

King's remarkable form saw him get 775 runs with an average of 77.50, which included two centuries, five half centuries and a top score of 148 not out. With ball in hand King took 29 wickets at an impressive 14.69, with a best of 6/53, plus four catches.

Meanwhile, Townsend's win makes it her second Una Paisley Medal in as many years, becoming only the second player in the history of the award to win back-to-back (joining Jess Cameron (now Duffin) who won in 2010/11 and 2011/12).

Townsend played 10 matches across the season, scoring 526 runs at an average of 58.44, with her highest score 98 not out. She also took 7 wickets at just 20.71, along with six catches.

Townsend's 36 votes left a clear margin between her and placegetters Ella Hayward (Melbourne) on 29 votes and Rhianna Southby (Box Hill) on 25 votes.

Congratulations to David and Stephanie, as well as all other winners celebrated on the night.
