Dr Sarah Perry, Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of Digital Humanities, has been longlisted for the Booker Prize 2024 for her novel, Enlightenment.
The novel tracks twenty years of unlikely friendship between Thomas and Grace, who are brought together by scientific pursuit, mystery, and love. Set in the small town of Aldleigh in Essex, the friends take separate paths in life before reuniting over the mystery of a vanished astronomer.
It's an honour and surprise to have been nominated for the Booker - it gives me such pleasure to think it might help the book find more readers. Best of all it has made me long to rush back to my desk, and write about time and love and the human condition all over again, and find other stories in other places.
