The new joint-honours undergraduate degree in AI & Philosophy from King's is designed to equip students with a unique blend of technical expertise and critical thinking skills. The programme is a collaboration between the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Informatics - both of which are recognised among the top 6 in the UK, according to the QS World Rankings 2024.
The degree offers a wide choice of philosophy modules with a particular focus on philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, ethics, and the history of philosophy. The artificial intelligence element provides students with systematic knowledge of the theory and practice of AI, as well as a deep understanding of the changing role of AI in society.
We're delighted to collaborate with Informatics on this unique, first-of-its-kind degree. The blend of understanding is key to challenging and taking advantage of the value, opportunities and issues surrounding fast developing AI technology in our lives today, and into the future.

By combining philosophical ideas with AI technology, the degree will equip graduates to be well-versed in the ethical implications of artificial intelligence and its impact on personal, social and economic landscapes. The course is designed to align with governmental strategies, giving students great employment opportunities after their studies, and to understand and interrogate the use of AI in industry, policy and beyond.
This will be a great opportunity for students with interests in both areas. It will allow them not only to master AI techniques, but also to take a step back from technical details and be able to characterise the nature, impact, limits, and context of AI.

The first intake for the new degree will begin in September 2025. As part of this programme, students will also be able to study abroad for a year and gain international experience.
