Kingston is urging the community to make their voice heard regarding new precincts being planned for the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL).
The Victorian Government recently released proposed SRL precinct plans, with the community invited to comment by April 22.
As part of the SRL East project, a new train station will be built next to Southland Shopping Centre on Sir William Fry Reserve. The project will include an underground rail loop and above-ground housing developments in the surrounding precinct.
Housing development surrounding the new Clayton SRL station will also impact on Kingston's northern suburbs.
Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley encouraged interested community members to review the draft plans and provide feedback on them.
"While this is a State Government project, we are committed to ensuring our community is aware of the opportunity to have their say," Cr Oxley said.
"These plans outline the type of housing and development that will shape the areas surrounding the new rail stations. Don't miss your chance to help shape the future of your local neighbourhood."
The precinct plans released by the Suburban Rail Loop Authority for their Cheltenham and Clayton precincts include:
- Proposed building heights (ranging from 4 storeys to 18 storeys)
- Areas for high-density housing and employment precincts
- Opportunities for community facilities and open space
- Potential cycling corridors, bus and traffic connections
"Council is also carefully reviewing the plans to provide feedback. We know from our own community consultation that key elements people want to see included in the project include open space, community facilities, pedestrian/cycling connections, traffic management and good housing design," Cr Oxley said.
"I strongly encourage residents to take the time to review the plans and share their views."
The plans are now available to view at engage.vic.gov.au/srl-east-structure-planning with the community able to provide feedback until 22 April.
