Camden's premier BMX facility continues to come to fruition with Council accepting a tender for the construction of a new car park at last night's ordinary meeting.
Kirkham Park BMX Facility, which is receiving a $5.56 million upgrade, will see stage 2B works begin in May this year, including:
- Construction of a 200-space carpark;
- Realignment of access road; and,
- Construction of pedestrian bridge and landscaping.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the facility would be able to host international competitions once complete.
"Council is dedicated to providing residents with first-class sporting facilities and Kirkham Park BMX facility will certainly fit the bill," Cr Fedeli said.
"It is exciting to think future Olympians may be training and competing at the venue when it is completed.
"Creating a car park and relevant works will make it easier for visitors to comfortably attend and enjoy the venue and I look forward to the works beginning in the coming months."
Kirkham Park BMX Facility Stage 2A is currently under construction and includes an 8m BMX start hill, elite straight, storage area, marshalling area and an international standard pump track, which will be open for use to the general public once complete. The project is co-funded by Council and the NSW Government's 2019/20 Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund.
