Forestry Corporation is pleased to partner with Koala Conservation Australia in launching the annual koala tree giveaway on the Mid North Coast.
The annual giveaway, now in its seventh year, launches on National Eucalypt Day - Sunday, March 23.
This year the Tree Giveaway will continue until the end of June and for the first time trees can be collected from Guulabaa – Place of Koala, in the Cowarra State Forest.
The joint initiative between KCA and Forestry Corporation has seen more than 215,000 koala food trees given to local landholders to establish habitat for koalas and native wildlife.
KCA Conservation Manager Scott Castle said the 25,000 seedlings consist of four different species tallowwood, grey gum, forest red gum and swamp mahogany to suit different soil and habitat types.
"This year's Koala Tree Giveaway aims to go some way to regenerating and connecting existing habitats," Mr Castle said.
"We invite private and public land holders, schools and anyone in the community with some open space for tree planting, to order trees online from this Sunday, 23rd March from our website – https://koalaconservationaustralia.org.au/pages/events
Ordered trees will be made available in late April at Guulabaa – Place of Koala – Cowarra State Forest, Guulabaa Way Lake Innes, entry off Burrawan Forest Drive, between 10am and 2pm Monday to Saturday.
"Forestry Corporation staff will be available onsite at Guulabaa - Place of Koala on Sunday, March 23 during National Eucalypt Day events to talk about Cowarra State Forest, forest science and how seedlings are raised at the Grafton Nursery for koala feed donations and for sustainable timber resources," Forestry Corporation's Senior Manager Country and Community Kathy Lyons said.
"Cowarra State Forest is home to an array of eucalypts including grey gum, Sydney blue gum, tallowwood, blackbutt, turpentine, grey ironbark, red mahogany, flooded gum, red bloodwood and forest red gum," she said.
